Don’t Let Vhembe Vanish

Did you know that the largest coal-fuelled industrial development in South Africa’s history is planned for Limpopo’s Vhembe Biosphere Reserve, along with the expansion of coal mining on an unprecedented scale.

The Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone is a state-backed industrial mega-project, which is being developed in partnership with China in the remote Vhembe region of Limpopo.

Strip mining and heavily industrialising this area will lay waste to the ambitious plan for protected areas expansion in the Limpopo River Valley and Soutpansberg Mountains, destroying the vision for a mega living landscape and its potential to unleash transformative growth in the Vhembe.

We are sitting on an environmental and economic time bomb... Why are we sacrificing the wild heart of Limpopo?
